Nelligudde lake - Breakfast Ride

A breakfast ride to visit the unexplored Nelligudde Kere(NG lake) | The Crew: Prashanth, Pallavi | The Ride: Duke 390.

Backgroud: So it had been a week or so since we visited Markandeya hills and we had an extra off day in the mid of the week(Jan-26th), so by default we thought of exploring something new and also not crowded. Started we looking for spots online and saw very few posts/videos about this unexplored gem - NG lake a.k.a Nelligudde kere.

About the Place: Its just another lake with spectacular view. | R96G+H4M, Muddapura Karenahalli, Karnataka 562109

The Day: Since the distance was less and it was only two of us we didn't have to think about coordinating with friends. We started around 6:45 and maps showed ETA of 8AM. As usual google maps suggested some inner roads to exit the city where road conditions were pathetic.

The Views and disaster: Within no time we touched the mysore road and this is where maps started to have fun with us. We entered some unknown village roads and the views we got were really amazing.

This place was amazing.

So we continued the ride while enjoying the scenic views and smooth roads. For a moment I thought I missed a turn and checked to take a detour , but all of a sudden we found ourselves in middle of a farm with a small trial. I thought we will connect to the main road and continued but ended up in some private farm.

My bike had road tyres but somehow managed to ride on the trial with pillion. Trial turned into slush within seconds and we found ourselves stuck. My wife got down and started walking back while I managed to get the bike out of the slush. We reached the main road and a local guy asked us not to rely on maps and guided on how to reach the correct side of the lake.
Note: DO NOT TAKE THE ROUTE THAT MAPS SUGGEST YOU. ASK THE LOCALS.

So with help of locals we found ourselves on the right road and within 5mins we reached the lake.
There is decent parking for bikes, but if there are too many cars its hard to find parking spot. The view of the lake was just amazing, locals were talking walks and we even saw few folks taking a swim in the lake too.

We took couple of laps of walk on while enjoying the view of the lake and found a place to sit and watch the view.

The way back home: We had some adventures in past 2hrs and we both were hungry. We had already decided to try the famous thatte idly at Bidadi and started from the lake only to find out that the highway was just 300mts from the lake. In next 10mins we reached the hotel Renukamba(There were multiple shops with same name) and had our breakfast. I can say i have had some better idlis then what I tasted here.

Rate this.

Advice time: For the folks planning to visit the place I would suggest you to carry/follow :

  • Get water from home as buying bottles out side will only result in plastic dump. And do not throw it in waterbodies.
  • Food is optional, but would recommend you to carry some snacks as there are no shops around the lake.
  • Do not try to over speed in village roads.
  • Wear seatbelts if you are driving and helmets and basic gear if you are on motorcycle.
  • Parking is free.
  • Please use highway if you don't want adventure, the lake is just 300M from main expressway.

A humble request would be to not litter at the location 😊 lets be mindful of our planet and our future generation. If you visit the place do let us know your experience
